The Grand Giveaway

To spice my blog up a bit I decided to hold a giveaway for my followers. 

The Rules: 
1. You must be a follower to have more than one entry. 
2. You will receive an extra entry if you promote the contest on your blog.
3.If you were one of the first ten followers you will be given an extra entry.
4. In order to compete you must read (or know a bit about) the Space trilogy by C.S. Lewis (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength), and answer the questions that are given to get an extra entry. I will be asking 2 questions from each book. You can only answer 1 question each.
5. After the winner of the draw has been found I will write another post asking that specific person to place a comment with their email so to which the prize will be sent to. (You email details will not be publicized or used outside this contest).

Riddles, Riddles, Riddles!

Ooo, yes, as you can tell from the title I am going to be giving you some of my toughest riddles for you to answer in this post. So, let the guessing begin (to quote Jake from the Teenage Writer). :P

1. A man is 20 years old in 1980, but only 15 years old in 1985. How is this possible?
2. What has roots that nobody sees, and is taller than trees. Up, up it goes, and yet it never grows.

4. Two convicts are locked in a cell. There is an unbarred window high up in the cell. No matter if they stand on the bed or one on top of the other they can't reach the window to escape. They then decide to tunnel out. However, they give up with the tunneling because it will take too long. Finally one of the convicts figures out how to escape from the cell. What is his plan?
5.Name an eight letter word that has kst in the middle, in the beginning, and at the end.

!Rock the River!

Just a few week's back I found out that there is going to be a Christian band tour in the West Coast. I am not excited about the event it's self, but rather the bands that are playing (Skillet, Starfield, TFK, The almost, Tedashii, and of course Downhere.) 
So, if any of you are out this way, or live in Vancouver (or are near it) then I would suggest that you try to make an effort to see it.

9 things you should know about J.R.R Tolkien

Out of curiosity I decided to search up about J.R.R Tolkien and his history. And this is what I found!
 
1. He had a flair for the dramatic.

As a linguist and expert on Old English and Old Norse literature, Tolkien was a tenured professor at Oxford University from 1925 until 1959. He was also a tireless instructor, teaching between 70 and 136 lectures a year (his contract only called for 36). But the best part is the way he taught those classes. Although quiet and unassuming in public, Tolkien wasn’t the typical stodgy, reserved stereotype of an Oxford don in the classroom. He was known to begin classes by barging into the lecture hall, sometimes in era-appropriate chain mail armor, and bellowing the opening lines of Beowulf at the top of his lungs. As one of his students put it, “He could turn a lecture room into a mead hall.”

2. He didn’t share your enthusiasm for Hobbits.

Tolkien saw himself as a scholar first and a writer second. It always irked him that his scholarly works went largely unknown by the general public, who flocked to his fantasy writings. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were largely Tolkien’s attempt to construct a body of myth, and their success caught him largely unaware. In fact, he spent years rejecting, criticizing and shredding adaptations of his work that he didn’t believe captured its epic scope and noble purpose! He was also utterly skeptical of most LOTR fans, who he thought incapable of really appreciating the work, and he probably would have probably been horrified by movie fandom dressing up like Legolas.

3. He loved his day job.

To Tolkien, writing fantasy fiction was simply a hobby. The works he considered most important were his scholarly works, which included Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics, a modern translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and A Middle English Vocabulary.

4. He was quite the romantic (and he’s got the nerdy gravestone to prove it).
